St. Kanzian at Lake Klopeiner See is situated at 442 m above sea level in the province of Carinthia. The community has 4.359 inhabitants and covers an area of 40,94 km².

Places to See in St. Kanzian at Lake Klopeiner See
St. Kanzian is located in the north of Lake Klopein, one of the warmest swimming lakes in Austria. This lake not only has excellent drinking water quality, also thermal or spa- water of highest quality has been discovered.
The community of St. Kanzian is divided into 37 villages; more small lakes, such as Lake Tunersee, can be found in this area.
Buildings worth seeing are the Parish Church of St. Kanzian in Klopein, the church St. Laurentius in Stein, which was part of a medieval castle from the 12th century, or the “Große Hildegardsstock” in Stein, a wayside shrine to honour Countess Hildegard von Stein.
The Bird Park at Lake Tunersee exhibits more than 1200 birds and 340 different species, the ‘Wildgatter Klopeiner See’ is open all year round and includes tavern, petting zoo and excursion train for the little ones. The Enchanted Forest at Lake Klopein is open during the summer season. Golfers love the 18-hole golf course south of Lake Klopein.
Throughout the year St. Kanzian organizes many events which are very popular among both locals and visitors: in summer the MS Magdalena cruises on the river Drau and the arts centre K3 always offers a wide range of events: tradition, concerts of local music band and balls as well as performances, theatre and cabaret (August 2008, 20th International Film Festival of the Non-commercial Film ‘Golden Diana’, performances by art think-tank ‘Freistaat Burgstein’).
