The Community of Obertauern
Obertauern is situated at 1.630 m above sea level in the province of Salzburg. The community has 500 inhabitants and covers an area of 71,7 km².
The Weather in Obertauern
Mean annual temperature is 2,8 degree Celsius, annual precipitation is 1.093 mm. Rainfall is at its highest in July at 186,7 mm, at its lowest in December at 27,4 mm. It’s warmest in July, coolest in January.
The small village of Obertauern sits on the highest point of the Tauern Pass separating the regions of Lungau and Pongau: in winter it is one of the snow surest ski areas in the Alps and in summer it is a place of recreation and relaxation.
Ski experience – Tauern circuit
Winter season in Obertauern starts at the end of November. A total of 26 lifts located from 1630 m to 2310 m cover more than 100 kilometres of slopes. Skiers and snowboarders love the famous Tauern Circuit from Seekar to Grünwaldkopf and Gamsleiten. Children learn how to ski, while their parents enjoy the beautiful panorama at the Zehnerkar mountain station.
Obertauern and Ski Amadé
By the way: Obertauern belongs to the Salzburg ski group Ski Amadé. It is one of the biggest ski groups in the world including 28 destinations in Salzburg and Styria. Holidays in Obertauern also include the ski areas of Zauchensee, Saalbach-Hinterglemm or Bad Gastein.
