The Community of Saalbach
Saalbach is situated at 1.003 m above sea level in the province of Salzburg. The community has 2.958 inhabitants and covers an area of 125,46 km².
The Weather in Saalbach
Mean annual temperature is 6,3 degree Celsius, annual precipitation is 1.298,5 mm. Rainfall is at its highest in July at 169,8 mm, at its lowest in April at 63,2 mm. It’s warmest in July, coolest in January.
About 20 km from Zell am See the villages of Saalbach and Hinterglemm are nestled in soft green hills away from the major traffic routes.
In winter Saalbach Hinterglemm and the village of Leogang offer 200km of perfectly groomed ski slopes. 55 ski-lifts serve the local mountains Schattberg and Kohlmais. The neighbouring Leogang Valley can be reached via the Asitzgipfel Mountain.
Music and Snow
After a skiing day in Saalbach Hinterglemm, visit one of the numerous après ski bars. The biggest party of the year takes place in December. International DJs lay down some grooves at the 48 hour “Rave on Snow” music festival – a real holiday experience.
Saalbach Hinterglemm in summer is always worth visiting. There are lots of attractions to be found in the “Valley of Games” – families follow the traces of a kobold living on Kodok Mountain. Nature enthusiasts will explore the landscape on 400 km of hiking trails and the cities of Saalfelden and Zell am See invite to a short visit.
Mountain biking Saalbach Hinterglemm
Mountain bikers love the wide range of alpine terrain available in this holiday region. Saalbach Hinterglemm even hosts the World Games of Mountain Biking each year in September. Saalbach-Hinterglemm-Leogang offer numerous trails of varying difficulty, but the most demanding tour is the BIG 5 Challenge covering more than 5000 m difference in altitude from Saalbach Hinterglemm to Schattberg and Leogang.
