Winter

The magazine SnowPlanet chose the free sports area of Dachstein Krippenstein as the hot spot for the freerider scene! Not just the runs and cliff drops were convincing, but also the exciting outdoor program.

The reliable snow of the Dachstein region and modern snowmaking equipment guarantees skiing and boarding fun “on piste” for 11 km, the longest run in Upper Austria, and “off piste” with 30 km of deep snow variants, freerider training and snow camps.

Alternative activities include skiing, snowshoeing on marked and groomed snowshoe trails, ice climbing, paragliding, etc. For your entertainment, spectacular extreme sporting events are offered with professionals, as well as recovery for your physical well-being and relaxation in huts and lodges.

Summer

Caves of rock and ice, great hiking trails, spectacular viewing platforms, unique events, and all this against the backdrop of Upper Austria’s highest summit – the Dachstein!

One of the highlights is a tour of the three large show caves that can be easily reached in a few minutes on foot or with the Dachstein-Krippenstein cable car:

The ice cave fascinates with its bizarre ice sculptures that have been successfully put in the spotlight by numerous artistic installations and with Austria’s “coldest concert hall”.
In tours of the Mammut cave, you can learn everything about the historical origin and research of the almost 70-kilometer long mazes and huge cathedrals.
In the valley near the natural jewel of the Koppenwinkel you can find the Koppenbrüller cave – a still active cave that is particularly fascinating with its rushing cave creek. Trekking tours are offered in both the Mammut cave and Koppenbrüller cave where labyrinthine-like cave passages can be explored off the tourist path.

The Krippenstein offers nature lovers who enjoy hiking very different highlights with sunny trails and spectacular viewing platforms such as the WeltNATURerbeblick (world heritage view) from which you have a magnificent view of the Hoher Dachstein, the well-known “5fingers” with a fantastic view of Hallstatt and the Inner Salzkammergut at a dizzying height or the “Welterbespirale” (world heritage spiral), from which you can enjoy a panorama of the surrounding peaks while relaxing on the lounge chairs.
Of course, hikers also have the opportunity to experience one of the adventure hiking trails on the Dachstein, such as the “Heilbronn Rundwanderweg”, or ascending one the surrounding mountains on your own.
