Obertauern is much more than just a pass that connects Lungau and Pongau in Salzburger Land. In winter , the village is transformed into a snow-sure ski resort with a long season from November to May. A special highlight in the ski area is the "Tauernrunde", which allows you to ski all the way around Obertauern, both clockwise and anticlockwise. This circuit connects the slopes of Seekar, Grünwaldkopf and Gamsleiten so that you can ski the route at a leisurely pace without having to take off your skis. In addition to classic skiing, Obertauern also offers exciting off-piste experiences. At the "Gamsleiten Kriterium", a treasure hunt event, guests can win valuable prizes with a bit of luck. The "X-Cross Run Mountain", an obstacle course in alpine terrain, attracts adventure-seekers in particular who want to take on sporting challenges. And the après-ski culture is not neglected here either: pubs such as the Latschn Alm on the Plattenkar/Edelweiss piste ensure sociable evenings in a relaxed atmosphere.
In addition to the downhill options, Obertauern also offers a variety of cross-country skiing options. The groomed trails in the region offer routes for every ability level, such as the World Cup trail, an intermediate trail for more experienced cross-country skiers. The Twenger Au cross-country ski trail connects Obertauern with the neighboring village of Mauterndorf over 23 kilometers and has numerous entry points along the way.
