Places to See in Podersdorf

Podersdorf with its 2 km lake shore is one of the tourism centres of the Lake Neusiedl region. The lighthouse built on the main pier in the middle of the lakeside resort serves as reference point and storm warning for aquatic athletes.  Especially yachtsmen, surfers and kiters from the Vienna area take advantage of the region’s water sports offer. There is a regular and fast ferry service to the other side of the lake offering a great view to the neighbouring Hungarian landscapes.

One of the most famous sights in Podersdorf is a windmill built around 1800. It is still used several times a year for various events. The late baroque church was constructed in 1791. A multipurpose hall was added in 2000 by Lichtblau and Wagner Architects.

The Lake Neusiedl - Seewinkel National Park can be explored along a vast network of bicycle and walking trails leading through marsh areas, shallow lakes, reed beds and moors. Local nature experts guide tours through this part of the national park on horse-drawn carriage or on foot.

This region is very popular for its wine. Products can be tasted throughout the year in wine shops, cellars, taverns or right at the winegrowers’.

People in Podersdorf still take pride in traditional and historical customs, but also organize numerous events such as the “days of the open cellar doors”, Martinmas, the Podersdorf Indian summer, the Kermesse festival or the Christmas bazaar.
