As the westernmost steppe lake, Neusiedler See forms the heart of the region – an exotic body among European waters and the largest natural swimming pool in the country, which encompasses some 320 square kilometers of water area and reed beds.
The Neusiedler See region climate greatly differs from most regions in Austria. Here the climate is characterized by Pannonian or slightly continental weather with more than 2,000 hours of sunshine a year! The average annual rainfall is 600 mm and there are temperature fluctuations of up to almost 40° C in summer and nearly -20° C in winter.
With its refined culture, the Neusiedler See region is captivating. The Mörbisch Festival, the St. Margaret Opera Festival, the Nova Rock Festival and the Wiesen Festival Arena will get your heart racing. Concerts and exhibitions in the Esterházy Palace in Eisenstadt, in the Castle of Halbturn , in the Fortress Forchenstein and numerous cultural events in the Neusiedler See region complete the diverse range of offerings.
The Mediterranean climate makes the region an attractive place for those who are active. Glorious weather can be expected as early as April, providing excellent conditions for recreational athletes, swimmers and sun worshipers: wind surfing, kite surfing, sailing, stand-up paddling, kayaking, canoeing, horseback riding, hiking, Nordic walking, jogging, cycling and golf offer virtually unlimited possibilities to keep the body and mind in motion!
Neusiedler See region is a bathing paradise with numerous lakeside beach resorts on the lake Neusiedl, small swimming lakes, open-air swimming pools and St. Martins’ hot springs with Summer Island make for an inviting place for sunbathing. The diversity of offerings leaves nothing to be desired. Neusiedler See water is 22° to 23° on average – perfect for a cool dip! With a 2 km long beach, Podersdorf is very popular with families and water sports enthusiasts. Each year the Windsurfing World Cup takes place here with the big stars of the scene such as Jose “Gollito” Perez or Steven Van Broeckhoven.
