The province of Upper Austria

Upper Austria covers an area of 11,982 km² and has a population of 1.4 million. It is Austria’s fourth largest province. It borders on the provinces of Lower Austria, Styria and Salzburg as well as Germany and the Czech Republic. The provincial capital is Linz.

City tourism

Linz’s cultural significance resides not just in the series of grand events held there on a regular basis, but primarily also in a whole plethora of smaller events that give the city its cultural resonance.

Summer in Upper Austria

From the hilly Mühlviertel to the glorious valley of the Danube to the lakes of the Salzkammergut and mighty mountain ranges in the south of the province, Upper Austria is paradise for visitors seeking relaxation and time out.

Sports freaks will find plenty of opportunities to cycle, hike, climb mountains, enjoy water sports, play tennis and golf, or ride.

Upper Austria’s hiking regions are especially popular because of the variety of landscapes. The Salzkammergut kneels at the feet of the “King” - the Dachstein region with its mountains and lakes, the National Park Kalkalpen features both vast forests and an immense karst water well and the hilly Mühlviertel hides its many secrets well.

The densely networked cycle trail in Upper Austria has the right tour for every taste. The six best-known of these are: the Danube cycle route, the Salzkammergut cycle way, the Inn cycle route, the border-lands cycle trail, the Roman route and the Enns cycle way.
