Together with Bad Hofgastein and Dorfgastein, the spa and winter resort of Bad Gastein forms the 40km Gastein valley located in the Austrian state of Salzburg. Situated at an altitude of 1.000 m, Bad Gastein covers an area of 170,62 km² and is home to more than 4.000 inhabitants.
The average temperature is 4,9°C, the yearly precipitation is about 1.145,2 mm. Bad Gastein sees the most rain in June and July, while January and February are the driest months. The summer months of June to August are the hottest months with an average temperature of 20°C.
Located next to Hohe Tauern National Park, Bad Gastein offers great outdoor activities throughout the year.
Modern lifts at Stubnerkogel and Schlossalm mountains connect the two holiday resorts of Bad Gastein and Bad Hofgastein. Beginner skiers find optimum conditions at the Angertal ski centre, while Sportgastein is the perfect place for the more experienced winter athletes. Winter holiday in the Gastein Valley will be a great experience for skiers and snowboarders alike with 205 km of perfectly groomed pistes and about fifty modern lifts.
In winter Bad Gastein attracts some of the world’s best athletes, such as top freeskiers. The Red Bull PlayStreets takes place every year in the centre of the town.
Bad Gastein in summer is perfect for sports or spa vacation. The positive effects of the Gastein Valley‘s radon-thermal springs have long been known and are still very popular. The natural mineral water is provided by all the region’s hotels.
350 km of hiking trails lead through the breathtaking panorama of Hohen Tauern Mountains. Mountain bikers will love the 13 mountain biking routes or the Gastein family cycle path.
