Kaprun is situated at 786 m above sea level in the province of Salzburg. The community has 2.947 inhabitants and covers an area of 100,41 km².
Mean annual temperature is 6,7 degree Celsius, annual precipitation is 1.137,7 mm. Rainfall is at its highest in August at 163,4 mm, at its lowest in December at 38,4 mm. It’s warmest in July, coolest in January.
Located at the bottom of the Kitzsteinhorn Mountain, Kaprun is the ideal place to spend holidays: two ski areas, cross-country skiing tracks, adventure swimming pool, high wire garden, swimming lakes and a unique natural landscape. Together with Zell am See, Kaprun is one of the top holiday destinations.
Skiing and snowboarding is popular all year round. The Kitzsteinhorn Glacier ski area is open 365 days a year and one of the few Austrian all-year ski areas. The 3200 m Kitzsteinhorn Mountain can be reached with the Kaprun Glacier Lift via the Alpincenter and the highest cable-car tower Kitzsteinhorn of the world. Glocknerkanzel Panorama Terrace allows a fantastic view over the Großglockner Mountain, the highest mountain in Austria. In winter it is possible to stay over night at the 2500m Volvo Ice Camp – a bizarre world of ice and snow.
The Maiskogel ski area is especially suitable for families. The “Kitz”, which is the local name for this glacier ski area, overlooks the whole region.
In summer it is possible to walk from Maiskogel to the Alpincenter via the Alexander Enzinger Trail. The impressive world of the glacier can be discovered in many ways. The climbing areas of Rettenwand and Gletscherseeplatten with more than 100 various routes is a special experience.
