Bad Radkersburg is found in the far southeast of the Austrian Province of Styria. At an elevation of 208 meters, the health resort town is on the banks of the Mur River right on the border with the Republic of Slovenia; it has an area of 2.16 square kilometers and 1,450 inhabitants.
The average annual temperature in Bad Radkersburg is around 10° C. During the summer months of July and August, the maximum daily temperatures reach above 36° C. The coldest month is January with an average of -4.4° C; the two winter months of December and February also have low average temperatures around -3° C. The average annual rainfall is 841 mm, with the most rainfall recorded in summer in the months of June and July. The least precipitation falls in the winter months of January and February.
Bad Radkersburg is the southernmost thermal spa town in the tourist region of Thermenland Styria and has been a health resort since 1975 with 80° C mineral-rich hot springs, the richest magnesium source in Austria. The city spring and a sanatorium offer spa treatments in the form of baths and drink cures.
The 700 year old city is also full of magnificent architecture, beautiful façades, picturesque squares in the historical old-town and Renaissance courtyards with arcades, which, among other things, serve as venues for a variety of cultural events and concerts. Popular attractions in Bad Radkersburg include the Palais Herberstorff with its arcaded courtyard that is directly connected to a tower from the city’s medieval fortifications. In addition, the Gothic parish church, the city hall, the Marian column in the main square, the Pistorkaserne, the Puchhaus, the Frauentor, the Frauenkirche church and the ethnographic museum in the old armory are worth seeing.
The hot springs opened in 1978. After this, parc spa Parktherme Bad Radkersburg was developed into a 3,600 square meter relaxation and activity world with health, spa and exercise offerings. Sporting activities in the area around Bad Radkersburg include independent or guided cycle tours for sporty cyclers, e-bikers or cyclers for fun, hiking, golfing or horseback riding. The city is situated at the end of the 365 km long Mur bike path or you can take the miles long net of bike paths of the “Mur-tour” and get to Slovenia and Hungary through vineyards, pumpkin fields and through the second largest wetlands in Austria.
