About Ingolstadt

The Bavarian city of Ingolstadt sits on the banks of the River Danube at an altitude of 374m. It is home to more than 133,000 people and covers an area of 133.37 km². It is the second biggest city in Upper  Bavaria after Munich.

Due to its strategically advantageous location at the Danube, Ingolstadt has always been an important centre of trade and commerce. The city “Ingoldesstatt” was first mentioned in documents as early as 806. The Medieval Old Town features picturesque buildings with gable roofs and is the perfect starting point to explore the city. The city centre is framed by Hindenburgpark to the north and Klenzepark to the south.  Visit the many historic buildings such as New Castle, Reduit Tilly, Viktualienmarkt or the Theatre Square.

Things to Do in Ingolstadt

Ingolstadt is a city of culture, history, tradition and modernity.  Mostly, Ingolstadt is associated with the auto brand Audi and the football club FC Ingolstadt 04 (nickname “Schanzer”). 40,000 people are employed by the car manufacturer. If you want to find out more about the planning and the production of an automobile, join an adventure tour through the 2.7m m² Audi plant. Audi Forum is an architectural highlight and houses the “museum mobile“, various exhibitions, a shop and car services. Audi-Sportpark is home of FC Ingolstadt 04 and includes a stadium for 15,000 people. It’s a meeting place to support the “Schanzer“.

Ingolstadt is renowned for its great number of museums such as the Bavarian Army Museum located at the New Castle, the German Museum of Medical History displaying historic surgical instruments and lots more, the Police Museum or the Museum of Local History. The Museum of Concrete Art exhibits contemporary and modern artworks on an area of more than 800 m2.

Ingolstadt with its many bars and pubs is a great place to party! Visit the infamous Bermuda Triangle next to the city’s landmark, Kreuztor – “Diagonal” is more or less an institution, looking back on two decades in the Bermuda Triangle. The “Touch Down” pub is the place to be for watching football games live on TV. 
For a shopping tour visit the Old Town (Ludwig- and Theresien Street) or “Ingolstadt Village“, offering high-quality fashion and designer brands on 14,000 m².

Great events to visit are the Ingolstadt Folk Festival taking place in fall and spring, the Christmas Market at the historic Theatre Square and the Audi Summer Concerts in July – open air events at Klenzepark.
