The village of Valča is located at an altitude of 416 meters in the north of Slovakia at the foothills of the Little Fatra mountains, just 12 km from Martin. Nearly 1,500 people live in the small town.
The neighboring city of Martin (59,000 inhabitants) is an economic and cultural center of Slovakia. The town’s origins date back to the Hallstadt era. After the Second World War, the largest tank factories in the entire Soviet Union were found in Martin. Although there is no longer any armament industry here, plenty of automobile and paper manufacturers have settled in the region.
The Little Fatra is a densely forested mountain range. The highest point is 1,700 meters. In 1988, part of the Little Fatra was declared a national park. The biodiversity found here is impressive: the forests are habitat for brown bears, lynx, otters and a variety of butterflies, beetles and other insects. Explore the national park during a hike and discover the forest dwellers.
From Valča, you can directly reach the “Snowland” ski area. Here 5 perfectly groomed slopes await guests. Six modern lifts take skiers comfortably throughout the resort. In the fun park, snowboarders and freeskiers can live it up on the rails and kickers. The live feratel webcam shows what is happening on the slopes.
In summer, “Snowland” becomes an outdoor park. Golfers can practice their strokes on the driving range and putting green. Three tennis courts are open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Those looking for more action will find it in the paintball park, which is built on diverse terrain in the woods. The Downhill 4 cross park offers an adrenaline rush. Four riders can simultaneously test their skills on the trails here.
You can find current information and forecasts for the next few days on the feratel Webcam under “Weather”.
