The Swiss village of Schönried lies between Gstaad and Zweisimmen at an altitude of 1,231 m above sea level and belongs to the Saanen municipality, which is home to 6,871 people. The Montreux–Oberland Bernois railway stops in Schönried.
The average annual temperature is 4.8 degree Celsius. Schönried sees the most rain in June with 144 mm, while April and October are the driest months with 95 mm. The total annual precipitation is 1,379 mm. July is the hottest month, January the coldest.

Rellerli Gondola takes you from Schönried to Rellerligrat, which is the gate to "Gstaad Mountain Rides" Winter Sports Region. This is one of the biggest and snow-reliable ski resorts in Switzerland, comprising 53 lifts, 220 km of ski pistes and numerous terrain parks. Night skiing is possible in Wilspile and Rinderberg. The more adventurous will definitely be thrilled by glacier hikes and heli-skiing. Non-skiers will enjoy tobogganing and winter hikes.
