The town of Gersfeld is part of the district of Fulda/Hesse in Germany and sits at an elevation of 450 m in the Rhön Mountains. The city of Fulda is only 30km away. Gersfeld is home to about 5,450 people. The soft hills of the Rhön cover about 1,500 km2 and stretch across Hess, Bavaria and Thuringia. The mountain Wasserkuppe is the highest peak of the Rhön with 950 m; it is a very popular destination in the summer and in the winter.
