The Bavarian community of Grainau is home to around 3,800 people. It is located at the foot of the highest peak of Wetterstein Mountains, Zugspitze in Germany. Along with Garmisch Partenkirchen, Farchant, Mittenwald, Krün and Wallgau, Grainau is one of the seven municipalities, once belonging to the county of Werdenfels. The Grainau region is an enchanting landscape of mountains, lakes and gorges. Since the 1936 Winter Olympics in the neighbouring Garmisch tourism has been booming.
Grainau enjoys a continental climate. The Föhn wind, characteristic for the alpine areas, makes sure that some winter days are mild and the sky is blue. Planning a trip to Grainau? Check our weather sites and webcams for today’s, tomorrow’s or next week’s weather forecast.
