Upper Austrias friendly ski area – the Feuerkogel!
The small ski circuit on the Feuerkogel high plateau is also in winter the sunniest spot in Upper Austria and offers well-groomed, family-friendly slopes, many trails for beginners, a fantastic all-round panoramic view of the Dachstein and lake region, and cozy cabins.
Freeriders on skis and snowboards can make tracks on the 6 km long ungroomed descent into the valley. For ski tourers, the Feuerkogel is the starting point for tours of all levels and snowshoers can enjoy the impressive landscape on the tracked and groomed snowshoe trails.
Hiking on Upper Austria's sunniest high plateau!
Whether a cozy cabin tour or challenging crossing of the Höllengebirge mountain range, the Feuerkogel area offers more than 50 km of well-marked paths to meet every need with rustic mountain huts and a majestic panorama. From the mountain station, a cable car takes you on a fully accessible trip to mountain hut village so that even people with mobility problems or families with young children can enjoy the sunny high plateau.
A particularly worthwhile destination is Alberfeldkogel with a viewing platform and the impressive “Europakreuz” (Cross of Europe), which climbing enthusiasts can also conquer via the fixed rope route built by the Technical College Wels.
Lively traditions and local delicacies are offered at the annual alpine pastures festival in August.
All summer long the discounted ticket for the 4 cable cars to the most popular peaks in the Salzkammergut, the Feuerkogel in Ebensee, the Dachstein in Salzkammergut’s Obertraun, the Zwieselalm in Gosau and the Grünberg in Gmunden is available as a single ticket (for ascent and descent) or as a season ticket.
The “Schiffrundfahrt mit Seilbahn” mountain/lake adventure ticket is another highlight at Traunsee/Feuerkogel. From Gmunden, Altmünster or Traunkirchen, guests travel by boat to Ebensee and then comfortably take the cable car up Feuerkogel Mountain. After an eventful stay on the mountain, the cable car descends back down the valley to Ebensee and the boat takes you back to the port of departure.
