Due to the geographical location and prevailing air currents (transition from westerly wind zone to trade wind zone), there is no uniform climate in Turkey. The climate is very different in the north, south and inland. Situated in the interior, Kayseri is in a continental climate zone. Summers can be very hot (+40 degrees Celsius), with the average high temperature in July at 22 degrees. The winter months, however, are often extremely cold (-30 degrees Celsius). There is often heavy snowfall in winter and it is not well known that Turkish ski areas have very snowy winters.
