The Lower Austrian town of Furth bei Göttweig sits at the eastern periphery of Dunkelsteinerwald Forest and the eastern edge of Wachau UNESCO World Heritage Site. It covers an area of 12.37 m2 and is home to around 2,970 people. Waxenberg at 492 m a.s.l. is the highest point of the region followed by Göttweiger Berg at 425 m a.s.l. The town’s perfect location at the river Danube was reason for the Romans to settle in this area. The town was first mentioned in documents in 1138 AD.
