Together with Rührsdorf, Mitter- and Oberarnsdorf, Rossatz forms the market town of Arnsdorf, located in the Lower Austrian district of Krems-Land. It is home to around 1,100 people and looks back on rich history. Vienna is about 90 km and Sankt Pölten about 40 km from Rossatz. But you can also travel by ship: from Spitz, Weißenkirchen or Dürnstein. Rossatz offers a wide range of hotels, apartments, B&Bs, guesthouses and family-run boarding houses. The local camping ground could be the perfect starting point to explore the region of Wachau-Nibelungengau-Kremstal. Our webcams provide live pictures of the Danube and the romantic town of Dürnstein.
The community of Rossatz-Arnsdorf looks back on a history of more than 1,000 years to be found in historic buildings, churches, such as St. Lorenz, Mitterarnsdorf, Hofarnsdorf and St. Johann or at Rossatz Castle. You can still visit the remains of Roman towers in Rossatzbach and Bacharnsdorf. The Wachau region is not only famous for its vineyards but also for its apricot trees and the apricot blooming season in spring. Not far from Rossatz you find the popular Dürnstein Castle and the old town of Dürnstein.
More than 100,000 Wachau apricot trees are in full bloom in spring and attract many visitors to the Wachau. Depending on temperature and weather blooming starts in March or April.
The blooming of the Wachau apricot is especially beautiful between Rossatz and Arnsdörfern. Have a closer look of the region on the five-kilometre apricot adventure trail, boasting stunning vistas of Göttweig Monastery.
These very sweet and juicy apricots are harvested from July to August. Many regional recipes and delicacies are based on the apricot: apricot dumpling, juice, ice cream, schnaps, liqueur and lots more. The apricot is a very versatile fruit.
Located in the heart of Wachau, Rossatz-Arnsdorf is the ideal starting point for extended hiking tours: e.g. hikes along the vineyards and orchards where you can also purchase Wachau apricots, apples, or pears right from the farmers. The Danube Cycling Trail features 260km through Lower Austria from Passau to Vienna.
In bad weather explore the surrounding area. Visit the Krems Caricature Museum, Kunsthalle Krems or the wine adventure organized by the local winegrowers. Artstetten castle, Schönbühel castle, Göttweig monastery and Melk monastery are always worth visiting. The spa in Laa an der Thaya offers wellness, relaxation, and fun.
