What’s Going on in St. Anton?

The first thing that pops to mind when we hear Anton am Arlberg is skiing – and there is a reason for this. It is the exact place where Alpine skiing was invented at the beginning of the 20th century. Already in 1901 the Arlberg Ski Club was founded in St. Christoph. The skiing technique developed at the Arlberg modernised skiing and reached international popularity also through ski-movies like “White Frenzy”.

The Arlberg has always been considered the cradle of Alpine skiing. Today, 85 modern ski-lifts lead to Austria’s biggest ski area with more than 280 km of perfectly groomed pistes. There are no limits for skiers and snowboarders with the Ski Arlberg Ticket - from St. Anton via St. Christoph to Stuben, Zürs and Lech. As of the 2017/2018 winter season a new gondola starts service in Warth.

St. Anton is member of the renowned “Best of the Alps” Club – members are Lech, St. Moritz or Zermatt – and therefore home to a number of exclusive hotels.  This place is also very well known for its après ski bars. Partying and skiing go together well in St. Anton.

Which Sports can be Practiced?

The Arlberg region offers more than 40km of cross-country ski trails, 70km of groomed winter hiking trails, and more than 4km of a lighted toboggan-run.  All the ones who like it a little more challenging should participate in “White Frenzy” – the biggest amateur ski race of the Alps with about 500 participants, trying to conquer 1300m difference in altitude and 9km of piste as fast as possible.

This event also opens the summer season. “White Frenzy” is part of the world’s toughest triathlon: the Arlberg Eagle includes skiing, running and mountain biking. The winner is awarded after the Jakobi-run at the end of July and the Arlberg Bike Marathon in August.

What to do in St. Anton in the Summer?

Hikers and mountain bikers love the majestic mountains of the Arlberg. The Arlberg Lifts take holidaymakers up to the 2811m Valluga Mountain which offers a fantastic view right to the Lechtal Alps and even to Germany. Hikers will be thrilled by 300km of hiking Trails.

The extensive 200 km trail net includes all degrees of difficulty. Climbers find optimum conditions to perfect their skills in the mountains. High-ropes garden in the Verwall Valley, the steepest summer toboggan-run of Tirol (Arlberger Supersauser) and a golf course complete the summer offer and once again prove that visitors to St. Anton am Arlberg can expect a lot.
