Where is Afers?

The small South Tyrolean Afers is a picturesque village in the Brixen community Italy. Afers is about fifteen minutes from the city of Brixen surrounded only by stunning mountain tops. It is the perfect destination for those seeking calm and peace but also for adventurers in winter as well as in summer. It is home to around 620 people and lies at 1,500 m a.s.l. at the road to Würzjoch and Kofeljoch. Afer Valley is a side valley of Eisack Valley encircled by Plose Massif, the foothills of Peitlerkofel mountains and Aferer Geislern.

Sights in Afers/Brixen

Afers looks back to a long history and is home to many historic sites such as St. Margaretha parish church dating from the 15th century and sits on a hill above the village. The church accommodates impressive frescos and statues.

Rodenegg castle was built in the 12th century and today houses a museum explaining the world of the Middle Ages.

Hiking in the Region around Afers - Top Three Hiking Routes

Hiking enthusiasts will be thrilled by this hiking paradise. There are several hiking routes ranging from easy to difficult, each providing a unique experience. Eight- kilometre Afer Panorama trail from Afers/St. Georg to Hinterafers and Antonius chapel via Höfe trail runs through the soft hills of Afers accompanied by breathtaking views of Raschötz, Aferer Geisler and Peitler. This easy and relaxing walk starts at the parish church of St Georg, after an hour you reach Antonius chapel in Hinterafers from where you take your way back to the start on the same trail. Same trail but different view: Villander mountain and Rittner Horn.

"Woody Walk" on Plose mountain is very popular among families. Along the trail you find various attraction making this hike a real experience for everyone. Start and end of this family hiking trail is Plose mountain station. This 5,5 km trail takes about one and a half hours depending on the stops on the way, such as Glockensee lake or climbing trees.

The hike to Maria Hilf pilgrimage church located on Freienbühel is also a very popular hiking tour. Start at Hl. Georg church and follow trail no.7. Enjoy idyllic meadows and the pleasant temperatures in the forest. Stay a while at Maria Hilf pilgrimage church and enjoy the view of the mountain scenery, then take trail no.5 back.

Skiing at Plose ski Resort

In winter, the village turns into a snowy fairytale. Get first impressions of the ski resort on Afers webcam.

Plose ski resort is one of the most famous in South Tirol and features 40km of piste suitable for all levels of ability, Rudiland for the little ones, Plose freeriding park and a 9km tobogganing run. You also find the longest slope in South Tirol here: 9km Trametsch. The ski resort can be reached via Vallazza chairlift. Winter and snowshoe hikers find memorable tours in this region.
