Afers has a long history and offers a number of historical sights. The parish church of St. Margaretha, which was built in the 15th century and towers on a hill above the village, is well worth a visit. Some impressive works of art, including frescoes and statues, can be discovered in the church. Rodenegg Castle, built in the 12th century, is also worth a visit. Today it is a museum that takes visitors back to the world of the Middle Ages.
Hiking enthusiasts will find a true paradise in the South Tyrol region. The approximately 8 km long Afers Panorama Trail leads from St. Georg via the Höfeweg to the Antonius Chapel in Hinterafers. The easy route runs along sunny slopes and offers fantastic views of the Raschötz, Aferer Geisler and Peitler mountains - and the Rittner Horn on the way back. Families will find a special experience on the "Woody Walk" on the Plose: along the 5.5 km circular trail, play stations and natural attractions such as the Glockensee lake and a climbing tree provide variety. Another worthwhile tour leads from St. Georg across meadows and cool forests to the Maria Hilf pilgrimage church on the Freienbühel, with wonderful views as far as the Plose summit. The return is along the tranquil Stationsweg trail. Many other tours around Afers inspire with impressive nature, relaxing tranquillity and magnificent panoramic views.
