Although San Marino is not part of the European Union, it uses the euro as its currency. San Marino is one of the six European dwarf states and is the fifth smallest internationally recognized state in the world in terms of size and population. The border with Italy is just 39 kilometers long, the longest extension is around 17 kilometers. San Marino has around 34,000 inhabitants who live on an area of 61.19 km². The landscape is predominantly hilly, with the highest point being Monte Titano at 739 meters above sea level. The mountain ridge is crowned by the three fortresses of Guaita, Cesta and Montale.
