The canton of Schwyz is located in central Switzerland and borders the cantons of Zurich, Zug, Uri, Glarus, Nidwalden and Lucerne. With an area of around 908 km², it is one of the medium-sized cantons in Switzerland, with a population of around 165,000. The capital is the municipality of the same name, Schwyz, a historically significant place that gives its name to the whole of Switzerland. Geographically, the canton is characterized by a diverse landscape: alpine regions in the south, rolling hills in the north and numerous lakes, including Lake Lucerne and Lake Zurich.
