The canton of Vaud
The canton of Vaud is located in the west of Switzerland and borders France as well as the cantons of Geneva, Neuchâtel, Fribourg, Bern and Valais. The official language is French. With an area of around 3,200 km², Vaud is one of the largest cantons in terms of area and is home to around 820,000 inhabitants. The capital Lausanne is located on the shores of Lake Geneva and is an important cultural, educational and sports center. Geographically, Vaud combines the Jura Arc, the Vaud Alps and the famous Lavaux wine region, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The landscape is characterized by Lake Geneva as well as idyllic hilly landscapes and alpine passes. The canton boasts a diverse landscape, a high quality of life and cultural proximity to France.

The canton offers over 800 km of hiking trails, including panoramic tours through the Jura Park and the Gruyère-Pays-d'Enhaut region with its gentle valleys, lakes and alpine meadows. The Gstaad - Rougemont route, for example, runs for around 24 km, with a variety of forest and gravel paths for biking fun. In Rougemont - La Videmanette, a gondola takes you up to 2,151 m, from where marked hiking trails, via ferratas on Le Rubli and a ski area with 57 km of pistes beckon. You can also explore the fantastic view from up here from home using the webcams. Canyoning, paragliding and climbing gardens are also popular - from Val Grande to Moléson - as well as family-friendly themed trails near Morges or Lavaux wine terraces on Lake Geneva.
