Langeroog is located in the temperate climate zone, characterized by the warm water of the North Atlantic Current and the strong winds from the west. Wind speed has increased considerably in past years, although wind speed and direction have always varied. Fog is frequent and persistent. Storms are just as frequent, but rarely last longer than four hours. Every few years the sea freezes near the shore. Precipitation increases from the west to the east.
