Places to see in Heiligenblut

Heiligenblut is located in the Carinthian part of the Hohe Tauern National Park, at the upper end of the Möll Valley and at the bottom of the highest mountain in Austria, the Großglockner Mountain. This mountain village is also the starting point for visits to the famous Pasterze Glacier. The Großglockner-High Alpine Road starts here and leads from Heiligenblut to Bruck/Salzach Valley in Salzburg via the main chain of the Alps.

The Gothic Parish and Pilgrimage Church of St Vincent, the Briccius Chapel and the castle ruin of Farbenstein are just a few sights to be found in Heiligenblut. By the end of the 19th century Heiligenblut and its high Alpine region had already become a known summer health resort. Winter tourism developed quickly after the skiing area had been established in 1930. Among professional runners the Großglockner Mountain Run is considered one of the most beautiful events in Austria.
