Where is Wiler - Lauchernalp?

The municipality of Wiler (Lötschen) is located in the German-speaking part of the Valais canton, Switzerland. Wiler is home to 570 people and is one of the four Lötschen Valley communities (Ferden, Kippel and Blatten). For those travelling by car, Lötschen Valley can either be reached via Gampel/Valais Rhone Valley or the car shuttle train has to be used between Kandersteg and Goppenstein. An aerial passenger line takes you from the village to Lauchernalp holiday resort and Alpe Lauchernalp. The mountain station is right next to the resort. The bottom station features a parking house and a parking lot.

What to do in Wiler – Lauchernalp in the winter?

Lauchernalp ski resort boasts 7 lifts and 55 km of groomed pistes. In summer 2017 a six-person gondola replaced the two-person chairlift, increasing the comfort considerably. The resort’s infrastructure is ideal for families; in Kinderland professional ski instructors will help the little ones with their first attempts on skis.  This Swiss region is very popular among snowboarders and freeriders because of the numerous powder slopes. Hockenhorngrat mountain station is the starting point for the highest winter hiking trail in Europe, offering a unique view over 40 peaks higher then 4,000m. This stunning panorama attracts athletes not only from Switzerland but also from across Europe. 

What to do in Wiler – Lauchernalp in the summer?

Lauchernalp sits in the very heart of a beautiful hiking area, the high-altitude trail can be managed in eight hours. Another trail leads to Leukerbad via Resti Pass. Lötschentaler Sagenweg Trail, from Lauchernalp mountain station to Fafleralp, is especially suitable for families. Tree trunks along the nine km trail carry QR-codes which can be scanned with a mobile phone to bring up the various legends in German, French and English. Cosy huts and restaurants, such as Zudili Restaurant at Lauchernalp mountain station, are always worth a stop. Do not miss Kandersteg on the way to Wiler. Oeschinen Lake, a beautiful mountain lake just west of Kandersteg, is perfect on a hot summer day. The famous swiss chalets are not only popular in the winter but are also an alternative to conventional hotels.
