The Community of Silvaplana

Silvaplana is situated at 1.815 m above sea level in the canton of Graubünden. The community has 1.000 inhabitants and covers an area of 44,77 km². There are many beautiful spots to discover in Switzerland, but no other region offers more highlights than the destination of Engadine St. Moritz. Right there you find the two holiday paradises of Silvaplana and Sils – more than 1815 metres high at the foot of the Julier Pass surrounded only by lakes. This is also the region of the Corvatsch Mountain (1800m – 3303m) with the highest mountain-station of the Eastern Alps.

Corvatsch Mountain in summer

The beauty of the Upper Engadine Valley can be best explored by foot. Numerous hiking tours start in Sils, Silvaplana, St.Moritz or Pontresina and lead to and around the Corvatsch Mountain. Soon you reach the forest line and can enjoy a fantastic view to the glaciers and lakes. The trail down to Val Roseg and Pontresina via Fuorcla Surlej is a special kind of experience. The charming Val Fex represents the perfect mountain summer with lush meadows of herbs and grasses. Val Fex can be reached from the mountain station of Furtschellas via Alp Munt or Marmoré.

The ‘Water Trail’, an easy 2 1/2 hours walk passing six idyllic mountain lakes, offers unforgettable impressions. Starting point: Furtschellas mountain station. The Corvatsch hiking area includes routes of all difficulties and levels. Holidaymakers get to the 3'303m Piz Corvatsch, the local mountain of Silvaplana, using the new aerial cableway from Silvaplana-Surlej. In Sils a gondola takes you to 2312 m or a chairlift to 2800 m (in winter). Both stations are perfect places to start beautiful hiking tours or to have lots of ski and holiday fun.

Another tip: explore the snowy mountain landscape off piste on snowshoe walks.
