Idyllic Comacchio is a town and township in the Ferrara province of the northern Italian region of Region Emilia-Romagna. It is the most important community of the Po Delta and home to 22,100 people. The township includes Porto Garibaldi (harbour), several villages, lakes, and Adriatic beaches from the Lido di Volano in the north to the Lido di Spina in the south. Comacchio is often compared to Venice because of the many little bridges and canals as well as its charming old town. Comacchio is a great place to spend your vacation in Italy.
The antique old town of Comacchio is said to be the most beautiful of the Po Delta. The many historic buildings give evidence of the town’s rich tradition. The most important sights are 17th century Dom San Cassiano, elegant Palazzo Bellini as well as Manifattura dei Marinati – factory for marinating and preparing eel.
Tip: When visiting, join a tour on the canals with a traditional "batane", small boats with low bottom.
Do not miss visiting the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Valli di Comacchio, a nature reserve at the Po Delta featuring unique and spectacular landscapes of islands, dams, lagoons, and wetland. The area is home to thousands of animals such as the pink flamingos. Valli’s flora is just as diverse and includes various types of salt resistant reed and grass. The seven beaches of Comacchio are 23km long and invite to relax, swim and have fun. The sea along the beaches is calm and ideal for holidays with the family. The beaches are big enough for fun and play and the surrounding lidos organize events and activities for little children.
Lido degli Estensi is one of the longest beaches in Italy and is named after the Este Family. This beach is quiet and the water clean and clear. Huge pines can be found in and around the town.
Comacchio enjoys an oceanic climate with average annual temperatures of 20° C. The best time to visit this town is May to September as the weather is fine with hot temperatures and hardly any rain. Sea temperatures range from 7° C to 29° C.
