Steinach am Brenner is situated at 1.048 m above sea level in the province of Tyrol. The community has 3.325 inhabitants and covers an area of 28 km².
Most of the time, you drive unheedingly along the dream roads of the Alps headed south, with little interest for the surroundings, nearly no time to rest and in doing so you overlook the charming landscape that the trip leads you through.
Goethe already recognized this during his Italian Journey in 1786 – he of course travelled in a much more leisurely manner. His comment: “From Innsbruck on it became more and more beautiful - no description can help here." From the Wipptal valley extend five attractive high valleys in the glacier landscape of the Stubaital and Zillertal Alps - a paradise for hiking and mountain fans!
Eleven localities situated at an altitude of 990 m to 1,407 m offer a wide variety of over 600 km of marked hiking trails, ranging from easy-going Alpine walks to a summit tour to the Olperer (3,476 m)… and did you know that the most flower-filled mountain in the Alps – the Blaser – is in our region? A sea of Alpine roses, gentians and edelweiss adorns the meadows there.
In Steinach am Brenner, the Bergeralm Ski and Activity Arena invites you for some skiing fun. Waiting for you are around 29 km of ski slope fun, a kids' practice area, sledge run, as well as a 9 km night ski run.
You can uncover real ski tour secrets in the idyllic, deeply snow-covered side valleys like the Schmirntal, Navistal or Obernbergtal valleys. The offer is rounded off with the 100 km cross-country skiing trail (largest high-altitude trail offer in the Tyrol!), 10 sledge trails, ice-skating rinks and an indoor ice rink!
