What's Going on in Göstling at Hochkar in Winter?

Göstling in the Ybbstal Alps has the ideal leisure programme for both young and old alike – skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. Göstling is the perfect place especially in winter. Hochkar skiing resort is one of the largest and most snow sure in this province boasting 19 kilometres of pistes: easy sunny pistes, steep mogul pistes, snow park and free-ride trails – everybody can find an activity that suits him/her best. Further winter attractions are the small Steinbachlifte skiing resort, the floodlit panorama cross-country ski run at the high plateau between Hochkar and Dürrenstein, trails for winter hikes, a large fun park with tobogganing runs for kids, guided snowshoe tours in the backcountry, natural luge tracks, indoor swimming pools at “Göstlinger Wellnesswelt” directly at the village centre and a skating ring at the village square.

What To Do in Göstling in Summer?

In summer Mount Hochkar is a farmed alpine pasture and an ideal starting point for 157 km of waymarked hiking trails in the Göstling Alps. There is a guided hiking tour once a week in July and August. The area boasts a variety of tours such as the very difficult Alpinweg Hochkar-Dürrenstein-Ötscher (alpine route). It mostly runs above the tree line offering breathtaking views of the valley. Do not miss to try the hiking and biking trail “Die Kraft des Wassers” (The power of Water) leading through a gorge in the romantic Steinbach valley or the very popular trail to Hochkar Cave, one of the 3 largest flowstone caves in Lower Austria.

In the outdoor museum Mendlingtal visitors can admire one of the last historical timber rafting stations of Europe.
