Located in the Dachstein mountains, the Salzburg community of Filzmoos is one of the most beautiful mountain villages in Austria. It is home to around 1450 people and has shares in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hallstatt–Dachstein/Salzkammergut. The southern and the western part belong to the Salzburg Slate Alps.

Hiking is uplifting and balm for your soul. Whoever has visited Filzmoos im Pongau, will never forget impressive "Bischofsmütze" – the local mountain. Of course, Dachstein Mountain and its eight glaciers are also a very popular natural sight. Starting in Filzmoos, more than 2000 km of waymarked trails lead to various elevations and offer stunning vistas and sceneries. A must-see is one of the traditional alpine pastures.
Watching the rolling waters of the “warm” and the “cold” Mandling rivers is very calming; this mystic place is a place to rest and enjoy. Visitors staying at an accommodation of ‘Bergfreund or Bergspezialist’ look forward to a free guided hiking tour. The hiking bus runs from Filzmoos to both the start and the end of the tour. Hikes together with guides of "Filzmoos Aktiv" Outdoor Center are fun and provide valuable information about the local fauna and flora. Filzmoos ski resort is a small but nice ski resort. It offers a lot of room on the slopes and therefore lots of safety for children and families.

High-altitude cross-country skiing trail Rossbrand (1,600 m) is regarded a gem, offering conditions comparable to the ones found in Scandinavian forests. Cross-country skiers and winter hikers alike are thrilled by the unique view and the fantastic location of the plateau.
