The hotel village of Hochgurgl is located at the end of the Ötztal valley at around 2,150 meters above sea level and is one of the highest mountain villages in the Alps. Together with Obergurgl, Hochgurgl is part of the Gurgl district; the two mountain villages are home to only around 500 inhabitants. Gurgl is part of the municipality of Sölden in the district of Imst in Tyrol (Austria).
