Where is Hinterstoder?

Hinterstoder is part of the Pyhrn-Priel holiday region in southern Upper Austria near the Styrian border and sits at an elevation of 599 m above sea level. The village covers an area of 149.5 km² and is home to 1,000 people.

What's going on in the summer?

In the summer Hössbahn cable cars take you to Stodertal valley's largest area of alpine pastures, Mount Höss. The calm and idyllic high plateau is ideal for hikes and excursions. 13 hiking tours and Flötzersteig, a steep alpine path, lead you from 550 m up to 2,000 m above sea level to the most beautiful places of this area. Do not miss to visit the two viewing platforms “Dachsteinblick” at Hutterer Höss and the “Stoderblick” at Mount Poppenberg. Enjoy the wonderful scenic view of the striking peaks of the “Dead Mountains” and get useful information at the panorama info boards. A tour through the Hinterstoder karst cave is also a very rewarding adventure.

Besides hiking, Hinterstoder offers you a wide range of activities: leisurely walks or horse drawn carriage tours, sporty Nordic walking or jogging in Stodertal Valley, mountainbiking, climbing excursions or paragliding, tennis, miniature golf and skating in the skate park at Hinterstoder recreation centre. Get refreshed in the Hinterstoder open air bath or in one of the many rivers, brooks, ponds and small lakes, which are also a paradise for those who enjoy fishing. There are also fun runs for the whole family or very demanding mountain challenges, cultural events such as Upper Austrian Literature Days, temporary exhibitions of local and international painters, sculptors at Alpineum and music events.

Primarily known as Ski-Worldcup-Village, Hinterstoder enjoys the image of an attractive all year round holiday village. Natural beauties like the Schiederweiher Pond invite you to relax and hike. A sports- and leisure area as well as the running & walking area complete a varied offer.

Where is Hinterstoder Ski Resort?

In the winter Hinterstoder as part of Hinterstoder-Wurzeralm Ski Resort boasts 36 km of pistes with a snow cover of 95% and all levels of difficulties: discover our offer including “Hannes Trinkel“ world cup piste, a very selective carving valley descent, our attractive snow park and Sunny Kids Park. Take the fast panorama lift up to the mountain station, where you find many other attractive activities such as backcountry skiing, snowshoe hiking and tobogganing on the floodlit Stoderer natural luge track open till 11 pm. The 12-km-long Hinterstoder cross-country skiing trail is located in the valley and offers two lanes. At the alpine pasture of Hutterer Böden you find a 4-km-long cross-country skiing loop, which is also open for skate skiing. Every year Hinterstoder hosts FIS Europe Cup races and a Christmas Market.

Hinterstoder has earned its reputation by hosting the Ski World Cup and is now an attractive all-year- round destination. The beauty of the scenery such as Schiederweiher reservoir attracts many tourists looking for interesting hikes and relaxation. A sports and recreation centre as well as the Running & Walking Area complete the wide range of offers.
