Its name derives from the distinctive terraces, so- called “Staffeln” providing an impressive view of the history of the Earth. On the western bank of the river Main you find Eierberge Mountains (451m).

Bad Staffelstein is about 90 km from the city of Nurnberg, 31 km from Bamberg and Würzburg is a 11/2-hour drive. Bad Staffelstein can easily be reached by train from Munich or Frankfurt.
