Located in the northern Black Forest, the German spa town of Bad Teinach-Zavelstein is home to around 3,000 people. It is six kilometres from the district capital of Calw. The town of Bad Teinach-Zavelstein comprises the places Bad Teinach, Zavelstein, Sommenhardt, Rötenbach, Emberg, Schmieh and Kentheim. Bad Teinach-Zavelstein sits along Ostweg, a long-distance hiking trail passing many sights and which is famous for its crocus blooming. Wild crocus is usually native to the Mediterranean area and can only be found in a few places north of the Alps - Zavelstein is the only area in Southern Germany.
Bad Teinach - Zavelstein enjoys a mild and moderate climate. February is the driest month of the year, while the month of June sees the most rain. The enchanting Teinachtal Valley and its wooded mountain slopes attract many tourists every year. This region is the ideal starting point for exciting hikes, such as Premiumweg Nature Trail, or a local gourmet tour offering fantastic vistas. The Crocus Trail at the beginning of March is a special highlight of the region: at the time the wild crocus blooms a specially designed trail leads through the nature reserve and introduces the flower to anyone interested.
Cyclist and mountain bikers will love Teinachtal, offering routes and trails of all levels of difficulty, e.g. 90km Nagoldtal trail, which is also suitable for Nordic walkers.
