The municipality of Oberstaufen is located in Germany, more precisely in the picturesque Alpine foothills of the Bavarian district of Oberallgäu, close to the border with Austria and Switzerland. The town is famous for its parade on Shrove Tuesday - known as Fasnatziestag in the local dialect. The streets are filled with locals and visitors who enjoy the colorful spectacle. Also famous is the so-called Viehscheid, the return of the cattle from the mountain pastures. On the 2nd Friday in September, the animals are festively decorated and driven back from the mountains to the stables in the valley. The weekly market is also a highlight, offering regional products and specialties from the Allgäu. Here, visitors can sample cheese, sausages and fresh baked goods directly from local suppliers. Oberstaufen also regularly hosts the German championships of the Winter Triathlon Trophy in February. It consists of the sports of running, mountain biking and cross-country skiing.

Oberstaufen offers a wide range of activities all year round. In summer , hikes to the Hochgrat, the highest peak in the Nagelfluh mountain range, are a must. Spectacular views and well-marked trails await you here. From Steibis, you can take the Hochgratbahn cable car to the Hochgrat mountain station in 18 minutes, or you can take the Imbergbahn directly to the Imbergkamm. Once at the top, you can take a high-altitude hike or simply enjoy the wonderful view of the Allgäu Alps. For cyclists , there are both relaxed tours through the valley and challenging mountain bike trails in the mountains. 12 outdoor tennis courts, six of which are in Oberstaufen, four in Thalkirchdorf and two in Steibis, offer tennis players ideal conditions. Those who prefer golf can pursue their hobby at one of the two golf clubs. Water lovers can choose between a visit to the Aquaria adventure pool or the Thalkirchdorf outdoor pool. On the Obere Hündle-Alpe, a five-minute walk from the mountain station, there is an approx. 850 m long summer toboggan run and a mini-golf course.
In winter, the Oberstaufen region is transformed into a true winter sports paradise with over 40 km of groomed pistes. Cross-country skiers in particular will love Oberstaufen, with 100 km of groomed trails to explore. A special feature is the 50 km long cross-country ski trail from Alpsee to Waldsee near Lindenberg, and on the Häderich trails (1200 m to 1300 m above sea level) snow is guaranteed until the beginning of May.
