Where is the community of Oberstdorf?

The municipality of Oberstdorf is located in the Oberallgäu region of Bavaria at an elevation of 813 m. It covers an area of 229.84 km2 and is home to about 9,700 people. The bavarian capital city Munich is about 180 km in the north-west of Oberstdorf.

What to Do in Oberstdorf?

Every year thousands of people visit Oberstdorf as it hosts the first part of the ski jumping Four Hills Tournament. Schattenberg Ski Jump is one of the world’s most important ski jump. The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships is another top sports event taking place in Oberstdorf. Our webcam looks right at the ski jump.

Oberstdorf-Kleinwalsertal ski resort is the biggest ski area in Germany and features 130 kilometres of pistes. Nebelhorn is the highest ski area of the Allgäu Alps and boasts the longest artificial snow ski run with 7.5 km. Schöllereck is perfect for families and children offering intermediate ski runs. Do not miss the unique 800 m fun slope just below the mid-station of Fellhorn Cable Car. Freeriders will be thrilled by the various mogul slopes.  Freestylers also find their playground: CrystalGround at the bottom of Kanzel base station, featuring all degrees of difficulty.

Non-skiers will find a vast array of activities:  a big net of perfectly groomed cross-country ski trails, 140 km of winter hiking trails as well as snowshoe tours make sure of fun winter holidays in Oberstdorf. 

In summer Oberstdorf is the perfect location for hiking, mountain biking or climbing. The beautiful hiking areas around Oberstdorf comprise about 200 km. We recommend guided hikes such as full-day hikes to Freibergsee or Schöllanger Burg. Breitachklamm, the deepest canyon in Middle Europe, is very impressive. Do not miss a traditional “Almabtrieb” (trailing of the cattle), taking place every autumn.
