Rüdesheim am Rhein is a German winemaking town in the state of Hesse. It belongs to the Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis/Darmstadt district, it is home to 9,950 people and covers an area of 51.44 km². Rüdesheim sits at the northern bank of the river Rhine and is part of the Rhine Gorge World Heritage Site, on the other side of the river you find Bingen am Rhein, which is the southern gate to the Middle Rhine Valley.
The town centre lies at an elevation of 87m at the river Rhine, the town also includes Niederwald im Rheingau. 346m Fichtenkopf is the highest peak of Niederwald. The woodland, the Niederwald Monument and Niederwald Jagdschloss are the region’s tourist highlights.
