Schwangau – a natural and cultural gem

The royal castles of King Ludwig II have helped bring worldwide fame to the village of Schwangau. Each year, thousands of tourists make the pilgrimage here to see Neuschwanstein Castle and Hohenschwangau. With four lakes and the Ammer mountains, Schwangau is also a popular destination for nature lovers all year round.

Schwangau has much to offer culturally too: display boards along the “Schutzengelpfad” cultural path (“Guardian Angel”) bring the region’s history that extends back to the Stone Age closer. Tegelberg mountain offers numerous hiking trails and routes. Those who prefer a more leisurely approach can reach the summit by cable car. The feratel webcam shows a beautiful live panorama from the mountain station of Neuschwanstein Castle, the lakes in the valley and the Ammer mountains. Tegelberg has also been a very popular place for hang gliding and paragliding since the 1970s. A summer toboggan run at the valley station also offers fun for the whole family.

Schwangau in winter

Schwangau offers something for every type of winter sports enthusiast: cross-country skiers get their money’s worth on the trails at the foot of Tegelberg mountain. Skiers and snowboarders enjoy the 4.2 km descent into the valley and the snow park. Night skiing is also offered here twice a week. Ski touring is also becoming more and more popular at Tegelberg.
