The Lower Bavarian Waldkirchen is thee biggest town in the German district of Freyung-Grafenau – It is home to around 10,732 people and sits between the Bavarian Forest National Park and the city of Passau.

The Bavarian Forest is packed with impressive mountains such as Lusen, Dreisessel or Brotjacklriegel – and many other destinations suitable for the entire family.
Along with Freyung and Grafenau, Waldkirchen is part of the „Drei im Woid“ region. Nearby you find Sonnenwald, Dreiländereck-, the national park and Ilztal & Dreiburgenland.
In 1970 Schiefweg became part of Waldkirchen – it is home of the popular woman poet Emerenz Meier.

Erlauzwieseler See Spa Garden are only a few kilometres away and includes exercise parcours, art pavilion with open-air stage, kneipp facilities and lots more. Waldkirchen town park features playgrounds, gardens, and the longest bench in Bavaria.

In the winter ice-skating is fun for all members of the family – Karoli ice skating rink or Erlauzwiesel lake. Oberfrauenwald ski resort features tobogganing runs.
Oberfrauenwald ski resort is also popular among novice skiers and riders. Explore the stunning winter wonderland on a hiking or snowshoeing tour. X-country lovers enjoy the perfectly groomed trails through snowy scenery.
In the summer find some relief from the heat at one of the many swimming lakes: Karoli Lake boasts indoor and outdoor swimming pool, Mediterraneum, sauna and slides. Not far away you find Jandelsbrunn lake (drinking water quality), 20ha Rannasee lake (slides, beach volleyball, hiking, surfing, …), Freudensee lake (1,5km from Hauzenberg).
The Bavarian Forest is known to be a hiking paradise- Waldkirchen is starting point of many amazing hiking tours such as Saußbachklamm gorge, Erlauzwieseler See or "Goldener Steig".
The region features a vast bicycle net comprising family-friendly biking paths as well as challenging mountain biking trails. Adalbert-Stifter-trail is one of the most popular trails of the region.
Due to the good air quality Bavarian Forest is perfect for all sorts of outdoor activities, especially jogging and Nordic walking.
Poppenreut 18-hole golf course provides a golfing experience set against amazing scenery. Other activities include miniature golf, tennis, horse riding and lots more.
Waldkirchen enjoys a warm and temperate climate with most rain in July and average temperatures of 18.2°C. April is the driest month of the year and January the coldest with temperatures about -1.8°C. The best time to travel is June to August.
