Where is Demänovská Dolina?
The village Demänovská Dolina is located in the center, i.e. directly in the heart of Slovakia and at the same time in the northwest of the Low Tatra - the well-known mountain range of the Carpathians. The picturesque valley in which the village is situated gave it its name: This 15 km long valley is one of the most beautiful and most visited in the Low Tatra in Slovakia. The area had already been settled during the Ice Age - excavations in the cave Okno (Jaskyňa Okno) testify to it. In earlier centuries, shepherds settled in the altitude and produced, among other things, the tasty Liptauer cheese spread. Today the area is mainly characterized by tourism.

Here is the excursion tip for all those who do not want to enjoy the spa or relax at wellness in Hotel Chopok when the weather is bad: the Demänová Ice Cave (Demänovská ľadová jaskyňa) is in the immediate vicinity of the wellness hotel and, like the Demänová Dripstone Cave, is known far beyond the borders of Slovakia and an absolute visitor’s highlight. The Ice Cave is one of the first known caves in the world; it was first mentioned in the 13th century and its exploration began in the early 18th century.
