The town of Hriňová, which is over 200 years old, is located in the middle, i.e. directly in the heart of Slovakia and has about 7,400 inhabitants. It is situated on the upper course of the Slatina River and forms the transition from the Zvolenská kotlina basin to the Poľana Mountains in the north and Veporské vrchy Mountains in the east of the town. It takes about two hours twenty minutes’ drive by car to get to Hriňová from the capital Bratislava. The highest mountain of the historical Slovak town is Mountain Poľana with its stately 1,458 meters. In the past, inhabitants of this area earned their living mainly with agriculture and forestry, with livestock, as fishermen or even in the steam sawmill, as well as with glass production in the so-called glassworks. Látky-Prašivá ski resort is located at an altitude between 940 and 1,035 meters above sea level and offers some 1.2 kilometers of slopes, fun for skiers as well as snowboarders.
