Schladming attracts visitors from all over the world all year round. In winter, it is primarily the Schladming-Dachstein ski area that impresses with its extensive pistes and modern lifts. The ski area offers something for every skill level, and the Funpark Superpark Dachstein delights freestyle fans with international events. The Ski Amadé ski association also provides access to one of the largest ski areas in Europe with over 760 kilometers of pistes.
There are two World Cup runs on the Planai, the "Streicher" and the "Planai", where the legendary Nightrace is held. Alongside the "Streif" in Kitzbühel, the Nightrace is probably the most spectacular ski race in the World Cup. The night slalom in Schladming is a crowd-puller that attracts up to 45,000 skiing fans to the Planai stadium at the valley station every year at the end of January. The party atmosphere during the night of the Nightrace is unbeatable, Schladming turns into a cauldron as soon as the first athletes race down the slope under floodlights. Away from the slopes, the 220-kilometre network of trails offers a variety of routes for cross-country skiers. Snowshoe hikes, night tobogganing on the 7-kilometer-long Hochwurzen toboggan run and night skiing on the Planai are further highlights.
