Bad Reichenhall is located in south-eastern Bavaria, close to the Austrian border, at an altitude of 473 meters above sea level, about 15 km south-west of Salzburg. The town is located in the Reichenhall Basin, surrounded by the Chiemgau and Berchtesgaden Alps, with striking mountains such as the Predigtstuhl and the Hochstaufen. The Saalach river flows through the town. Bad Reichenhall is known for its long tradition as a spa town and the extraction of salt from brine springs.
