Where is Montan

Montan (Italian: Montagna) is an Italian community in South Tirol. Located in the province of Bolzano, it is only 15 km from Kaltern and Bolzano city. Tramin, Laag and Lake Kalterer are about ten km from Montan. The community is home to 1,720 people and covers an area of 18.91 km² on a plateau on the eastern side of the Etsch Valley. Enn Castle towers above the village anis renowned for its steep cobbled alleys. A bypass road leads to Deutschnofen located at Trudner Horn National Park. In the north-west 1,781 Trudner Horn neighbours Neumarkt, Salurn and the Trentino Capriana. Montan includes the hamlets of Pinzon, Glen, Kalditsch, Gschnon and Kaltenbrunn, embedded in beautiful orchards and vineyards. It is said that the climate in Montan is perfect for excellent Blauburgunder grapes.

How is the weather in Montan?

South Tirol and Trentino enjoy a temperate climate with early spring and long autumn. The summer is hot with little rain and ideal for swimming and fun at Lake Kalterer. In the winter Etsch Valley hardly sees any snow and temperatures are moderate. The ski resorts on the mountains, however, are a true paradise for all winter athletes. What to do in Montan?

Montan features a wide array of outdoor activities. It is only a 40-minute drive from Latemar - Obereggen - Pampeago - Predazzo ski resort, boasting 49km of piste of all levels of difficulty and a kids’ terrain with lift and magic carpet. Dolomiti Superski is the biggest connected ski resort in Italy and attracts visitors from all over Europe. South Tirol is home to a vast net of X-country trails for both skaters and traditional X-country skiers. In the winter nearly every South Tirolean community organises winter and X-mas markets.

Where to go hiking in Montan?

The picturesque village of Montan sits right at one of the most beautiful national parks in South Tirol. Trudner Horn National Park is paradise for hikers, climbers, mountaineers, and mountain bikers. Hikers will definitely enjoy the tour to 1,563m Cislon, a wooded mountain in the Fleimstal Alps. Tramin, Kaltern, Eppan, Laag or at Lake Kalterer you find an abundance of easy and flat trails running through stunning landscapes. Do not miss visiting Montiggler lakes above the village of Kaltern. Late summer and autumn are best for hiking in South Tirol as there is hardly any rain and nature is colourful.
