Snow sports history was written in the Jungfrau Region, and the villages of Mürren and Wengen in particular are regarded as the cradle of skiing. The first ski races and the first Ski World Championships (1931) were held in Mürren. Alpinism also plays a central role in the Jungfrau Region. On the one hand, the Jungfrau was the first 4000-metre peak in Switzerland to be climbed (1811), while on the other, the dramatic first attempts to climb the north face of the Eiger attracted numerous tourists to the region.
Jungfrau Region today means pure snow fun: the three sub-regions of Grindelwald-First, Kleine Scheidegg-Männlichen and Mürren-Schilthorn are linked together and provide access to over 200 kilometers of pistes and 100 kilometers of sledging and hiking trails - all with one ski pass. And every activity comes with a view of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. This includes the longest toboggan run in the Alps: from the Faulhorn, the trail leads over 15 kilometers and an altitude difference of 1600 meters via Bussalp to Grindelwald. Those who prefer to get away from the hustle and bustle can hike through the snow-covered winter landscapes on snowshoes. Various signposted routes in Grindelwald, Wengen and Mürren show the way.
