Burgberg im Allgäu is a German municipality in the Bavarian district of Oberallgäu located between Immenstadt and Sonthofen im Illertal. It is home to around 3,270 people. The community comprises six parts: Burgberg i. Allgäu, Agathazell, Auf dem Ried, Erzflöße, Häuser and Ortwang. The river Starzlach east of Burgberg flows into Ostrach river in Erzflöße. The village sits at the foot of the mountain Grünten, also known as the “keeper of Allgäu”. Burgberg is also part of Alpsee-Grünten holiday region.
Whether x-country skiing and tobogganing in the winter or hiking and swimming in the summer, there is a lot to do every time of the year.
In the winter enjoy pristine nature, well-groomed snowshoeing paths or fantastic x-country skiing trails. NTC ski school in Oberstdorf is a great place to start skiing.
The community is also known for its traditional festivals and events. Burgberg night parade takes place every second year on carnival Saturday.
Visitors can choose from a wide offer of accommodations such as holiday apartment, farm, inn or B&B.
Must-do: hiking tour to Grünten (1,738m), leading past Grüntenhaus Hotel, past the mountain ranger monument and the 92m tower of the Bavarian Broadcasting station. This loop trail starts at Alpe Weiher parking. On the top enjoy the fantastic view.
"Große Wald" tour includes blooming meadows, blueberry fields, forest playground for the kids and on-mountain huts. It is great family hike of about 2.5km, starting at "Große Wald" parking .
Keep on walking and you will reach Grünten summit.
Originating at 1,070m between Wertacher Hörnle and Grünten, the river Starzlach is the creator of Starzlachklamm gorge. Do not miss this special natural phenomenon. The hike leads past overhangs, bridges and roaring waterfalls. Get some refreshments at Alpenblick mountain restaurant
Attention: tour through the gorge not suitable for wheelchairs and strollers.
June to August is the best time to travel to Burgberg. July is the hottest month of the year with average temperatures around 22°C while January is coldest with 1°C.
