At the end, the viewing platform of the 44-metre-high tree tower awaits with a spectacular view over the Bavarian Forest National Park. You can get a first impression of the impressive views with the live cam in Neuschönau. Another highlight is the animal enclosure, which is located between Neuschönau and Altschönau. Visitors can observe native wild animals such as lynx, moose and brown bears on a 3 km circular trail. The trail is suitable for baby carriages and wheelchairs, making it an ideal destination for families.
For hiking enthusiasts, a tour up the 1,373-metre-high local mountain Lusen is a must. Numerous hiking trails lead to the summit, where a breathtaking view over the Bavarian Forest National Park and the Sumava National Park in the Czech Republic awaits you. At the summit, the Lusenschutzhaus invites you to take a break and serves regional dishes for refreshment. The Bear Trail, which leads from Neuschönau to Grafenau, is particularly suitable for families. Equally popular is the 1.2 km themed trail "On the wood trail", which tells the story of the lumberjack Johann. The starting point is the treetop path and the trail leads past the Tanzboden, a water play area and the village forest garden to the Literaturhäusl. An exhibition and the Waidler cinema await guests in the town hall as the crowning finale. Other attractions in the area include the summer toboggan run in Grafenau, the forest history museum in St. Oswald-Riedlhütte and numerous opportunities for mini golf, bike tours, Segway excursions and golf. In summer, the natural bathing lake offers free bathing fun for everyone.
